It required precise timing, a skill she honed when she and her friends moved to what they called Rosy — a sprawling apartment complex on Roosevelt Island that doubles as a dorm. All her classes at Marymount Manhattan College were on the Upper East Side, and to get there, she took two buses and a tram that glides 250 feet above the East River and offers postcard views of Midtown Manhattan.
